A love for the outdoors and a passion for good food has always been important to me. Growing up in the city didn't mean I was removed from nature. I spent most of my energy as a kid gravitating to wild areas. No matter how small the woodlot or stream was, I was drawn to it! I would find scrap wood and used nails and build rabbit hutches and chicken coops ... you could say that this lifestyle was in my DNA. As I grew up and learned the disappointing truths about the commercial food industry, I knew there had to be a better way! I started researching homesteading and farming techniques and settled on regenerative agricultural practices. This style of farming has become vey popular in the past few years. The basic idea is to improve the land while farming it. Whether you're farming crops or animals, there are regenerative practices you can use. A few years ago, my family and I were able to buy a house with some land in Dunstable Massachusetts and start to apply everything we had learned on a larger scale. We rotationally graze our animals, moving them to fresh grass regularly. This helps to distribute nitrogen and allows some disturbance to promote healthy soil. Our goal is to not only raise our animals in the most ethical way possible, but also to improve the land they graze on.
